Privacy Policy
The short version
SpeedCue is a local-first GPS speed instrument. It works entirely on your device. It has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your location is used only while a drive is open, only to calculate and show your speed, and is never stored, logged, or sent anywhere.
What SpeedCue accesses, and why
| Data | Why | Leaves your device? | Stored? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Precise location (foreground only, while a drive is open) | To calculate and display your current GPS speed | No | No — used momentarily to derive speed, then discarded |
| Trip summaries (aggregate: start/end time, duration, distance, average/max speed, unit) | So you can review your own recent drives | No | Yes — on your device only, and never includes coordinates or a route |
| Settings (unit, alert threshold, display mode, brightness) | To remember your preferences | No | Yes — on your device only |
SpeedCue does not collect names, contacts, identifiers, advertising IDs, usage analytics, crash telemetry, or any coordinate, route, or location history.
What SpeedCue never does
- It does not connect to the internet for its core function, use a backend, or transmit your data.
- It does not record, store, or reconstruct your route — no latitude, longitude, altitude, or heading is ever written to storage, logs, or exports.
- It does not request background location — location is foreground, while in use only.
- It does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking SDKs.
- It does not require an account or sign-in.
Permissions
- Location — When In Use (precise): requested only after you start a drive, with a plain-language explanation. If you decline, SpeedCue remains usable for settings, About, and the parked HUD preview; it will not repeatedly prompt you. You can change this any time in your device settings.
Your data and your control
- All data is local. Uninstalling the app removes it.
- Settings → Delete all app data erases your trip history and settings and returns the app to first-run.
- Settings → About → Export diagnostics creates a coordinate-free support report you choose to share. It contains only: app version, a coarse OS/device class, the settings schema version, the coarse location-permission category, and structured error codes — never location or personal data.
Data security & your rights
Because your information stays on your device, its security is protected by your device’s own safeguards (passcode, encryption, and app sandboxing). SpeedCue collects no personal data and operates no servers, so there is no account to access and nothing for us to retain, share, sell, or be compelled to disclose. You remain in full control: your data is removed when you delete it in the app or uninstall SpeedCue.
Children
SpeedCue is a general-audience driving utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal data.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be reflected here and in the app’s About screen with an updated effective date.
